Some stories stay with you forever, and this is one of them.

Back in 2020, during a time when the world was shifting and everything felt uncertain, I met Samantha. Though she lived all the way up in Michigan and we never met in person, she quickly became an essential part of my life and business. As my social media manager (and honestly, so much more), Samantha helped me grow and build Kari Bendig Photography into what it is today. Her encouragement, creativity, and unwavering support meant the world to me. I will be forever thankful for the role she played in those foundational years.

Flash forward to just a couple of months ago, I got a message that made my heart leap. Samantha and her partner Caleb would be vacationing in Chattanooga with their two adorable little boys, and they had big plans. They were going to make it official. And not just anywhere. They had chosen to elope at Falls Creek Falls in Spencer, Tennessee, the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi.

Fun fact: Falls Creek Falls plunges an astonishing 256 feet and is one of the most scenic natural areas in the Southeast. With lush forests, dramatic cliffs, and roaring water, it's the kind of place that stops you in your tracks.

Their mission? According to little Teddy, it was simple: “Get Mommy and Daddy married.” So that’s exactly what we did.

After a very strenuous hike (and yes, I mean very strenuous as confirmed by the trailhead warning sign) we set off on a wild and beautiful journey. We climbed over rocks, stood in awe under giant overhangs, and wondered what might be tucked away in the caves and crevices along the way.

And then we made it. We reached the bottom of the falls, and wow. You could feel the intensity in your bones. It was absolutely magnificent.

Caleb and Samantha shared their vows and exchanged rings privately on a little rock, while their boys looked on with wide eyes and quiet hearts. It was emotional, raw, and deeply meaningful. I felt so honored to be there capturing this sacred moment in their story.

After a few wind-stained tears and the sound of the falls rushing around us, we started the trek back up the mountain. And it was tough. But just like Sam told Teddy at the beginning, “Doing hard things is worth it.” And it truly was.

I will never forget my time with Samantha, Caleb, and their sweet boys. Thank you so much, guys, for letting me be a part of something so personal and powerful. It was magic.
